My mother at 79, and a reistered nurse, recently entered a nursing home to recover from a fracture. Over the last 2 months we have noticed the same changes that are reported in your article. She has fallen 4 times, starting to become incontinent, starting to loosing her ability to walk, and starting to loose communication skills including vocabulary and what I describe as the rules for having a conversation. It has not been obvious that these symptoms could be coming from silent strokes because she has a filter. Very good article for a layperson.
