In 1995, 189 governments and more than 5,000 representatives from 2,100 ngos participated in the conference in Beijing, which promised to remove the obstacles to women’s public participation through equality in economic, social, cultural and political decision-making.

Nearly 140 Heads of State and Government gathered at U.N. Headquarters on September 20 to 22, 2010 for the second World Summit to review implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) adopted in 2000, including pledges from halving hunger and poverty by 2015 to dealing comprehensively with
