Do you feel comfortable discussing sexuality with your children? What and how are you teaching them?
Actually, sexuality is not an easy subject to discuss openly, even though sex is an essential part of our life. People have different understandings about it depending on their culture, religion and gender.
First of all, sexuality should be understood as science and medicine. Sexual activities are natural bodily functions including hormone secretion, muscle movement and brain function. Yet despite this scientific truth, sexuality is still a difficult subject to discuss in public. Why? Because sexuality has been an issue in society connected to morality, religion, gender equality and infectious diseases. It is often misused in politics and overused in commercialism. It has become one of the most sensitive and uncomfortable issues in society, possibly because the information of sexuality is not balanced and managed well. Accepting the current situation about sexuality, how can we educate our children about it?
