The second value is the human brain. When we use our brain with an earth-citizen awareness, we can experience unity with the source of life. Let’s think of our neocortex as our thinking and information, our limbic system as our emotions, and our brain stem as our life. Although our brains essentially want to work in an integrated way, they tend to move separately in thought, emotion, and life. Our emotions and desires create competition and separation. We try to control our emotions with our thoughts, because it seems like otherwise we would just be carried away by them. But the brain cannot be integrated at the level of thought or emotion. It can only be integrated at the zero point, where the thought of self is overridden by the thought of the whole. From there, we start to see our emotions and thoughts more clearly, and we start to use them as instruments to benefit everyone and everything.
Just as blood circulates in our body and air comes in and out of our body, and just like the rivers and oceans flow in our planet in a way that is unconditional, when human consciousness reaches the zero point, there is a chance for us to naturally breathe as one big human family, with each member playing a unique and beautiful role. We all have a deep longing to live in harmony as earth citizens. How fast we get there depends on the root of our choices to think, feel, and act at every moment of our lives.
Tips for Living an Earth-Citizen Way
Move your body frequently, every day
When you keep moving your body, it raises the caliber of energy you possess. As you exercise, your energy becomes abundant, strong, and clear. When your energy becomes abundant and clear, the voice of your surface awareness that argues about whether something is right or not, whether you did well or poorly begins to quiet down. Instead, the voice of the profound awareness situated in your deeper inner world comes forward. If you exercise frequently, wisdom, confidence, and courage will emanate from your body. It is the awakening of a fundamental energy that we are born with but which remains dormant until you stir it up.
Eat mindfully
Eating smaller portions is an expression of love toward yourself. It allows rest for your body and mind. It is also an expression of love for other people. Through eating small portions, you feel the value of life, you develop generosity of spirit. If you can share a meal, you have the ability to save a life. It is also an expression of love toward the earth. Consuming smaller portions reduces food waste, decreasing the volume of trash. It reduces the pollutants that are discarded into the oceans or buried underground. It affords the earth a chance for self-renewal. Eating less based on this kind of philosophy is a shortcut to putting into practice true love for humans and love for the earth.
Ask your brain questions
The brain naturally responds to questions. The moment a question is registered, the brain gets to work to find the answer. The more important that question is to your life, and the more you focus on it, the more strongly your brain puts together a system for finding that answer. A brain that doesn’t have a question to work on won’t look for a path. It won’t search for the truth or uncover miracles. If you don’t have any questions, your mind will wander aimlessly, following the sensory stimulations that constantly buffet your life. A brain that has stopped asking questions ages quickly. All answers are found in the brain. Have a goal and keep asking yourself how to get there. Utilize the function of the brain that involves looking for answers on your own and finding them. Don’t stop asking until you find your answers and your way to your goal. You will be amazed at the power and creativity of your brain.
